Marcus’ journey into refugee care work began with an unintended detour. In 2016, he met a Kurdish refugee fleeing the Syrian conflict in Turkey. Their friendship blossomed into a fruitful partnership that has led to the development of relationships with various individuals and organizations that serve refugees.
With almost a decade’s worth of experience in the field across multiple continents, Marcus offers a unique perspective into refugee care that goes beyond the conventional. He sees the necessity to aid refugees in the process of cultural transition to their new environment and believes that holistic care is the only way for their effective integration into their new surroundings.
Marcus lives in Minneapolis with his wife and is pursuing a double master’s program at seminary. He is a Certified Christian Trauma Care Provider and has experience using Narrative Exposure Therapy to help refugees debrief trauma. His self-care practices include expressing creativity through photography, and cooking for friends. His vision for Mending Together is the mobilization of everyday people into refugee care.
